1.3 What is PalmTick FeatherLight
PalmTick FeatherLight is a tickfile pre-processor for PalmScan. It
processes incoming tickfiles before your regular tickfile processor
will. "So what's the use" you might ask. Well, in some tickfile
processors it isn't possible to use an external archive conversion
utility, or it takes a lot of time using it.
PalmTick FeatherLight will read all incoming tickfiles and then start
PalmScan to process them, all at once! Then PalmScan can convert them,
scan them for viruses, add banners, etcetera. Also, File_Id.Diz and
Desc.Sdi descriptions can be passed on to PalmTick FeatherLight. After
PalmScan has processed all files, PalmTick FeatherLight will update the
tickfiles with the new information.
This will all save a lot of time when processing incoming files, and
add a whole lot of features to your file processing if you were not
already using PalmScan.

2 Installation
2.1 First time installation
PalmTick FeatherLight and all files included can be placed either in a
separate directory, or in the BBS directory. The most common way is
creating a sub-directory under the BBS directory, and place the files
there.
After placing all files in a directory, edit PTFL.CFG.
2.2 Commandline
Currently, PalmTick FeatherLight uses no commandline options. It must
be started by typing PTFL or PTFL.EXE at the DOS prompt.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3 The configuration
3.1 PTFL.CFG
The PTFL.CFG file is a normal (ASCII) text-file. You can create this
file with any ASCII-editor. PalmTick FeatherLight will search for its
configuration file in the directory containing PTFL.EXE.
If no configuration file is found, PalmTick FeatherLight will terminate
abnormally.
The general format for the PalmTick FeatherLight.CFG file is:
PT {statement} [mandatory parameter] <optional parameter>
The parameters have to be separated with one or more spaces. 'PT' must
be placed on position 1 of each line.
You can insert comment-lines into PTFL.CFG by putting a '%' or a ';'
character on position 1 of the desired line(s). Also empty lines are
considered as comment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3.2 General configuration
PalmScan [commandline]
Usage : This is the command that should be envoked to execute
PalmScan.
[commandline] The command and commandline options for
PalmScan.
Example : PT PalmScan PALMSCAN.EXE /L /FIX+ /NOCLS
Note : The example above will be used as default.
/FIX+ must always be given on the commandline for
PalmScan, else it will not work correctly.
TickPath [d:\path]
Usage : This is the directory where PalmTick FeatherLight will
search for the inbound tickfiles.
[d:\path] The full path to your inbound directory.
Example : PT TickPath C:\MAILER\INBOUND
BadPath [d:\path]
Usage : When a bad file has been encountered (ie. the file
cannot be unpacked although it is an archive), PalmTick
FeatherLight can move the tickfile which belongs to this
file to this directory. It will never move the file
which was processed, PalmScan can do that.
[d:\path] This is the directory where PalmTick
FeatherLight will move bad tickfiles to.
Example : PT BadPath C:\FILES\BAD
InfectedPath [d:\path]
Usage : When a virus has been found, PalmTick FeatherLight can
move the tickfile which belongs to this file to this
directory. It will never move the file which was
processed, PalmScan can do that.
[d:\path] This is the directory where PalmTick
FeatherLight will move infected files to.
Example : PT InfectedPath C:\FILES\INFECTED

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
OkPath [d:\path]
Usage : When a file has been processed without errors, PalmTick
FeatherLight can move the file and the tickfile which
belongs to this file to this directory. This can be used
to make sure that your regular tickfile processor will
never process a file which has not been processed by
PalmTick FeatherLight, and that PalmTick FeatherLight
will never process the same file twice.
[d:\path] This is the directory where PalmTick
FeatherLight will move files without errors
to.
Example : PT OkPath C:\MAILER\INBOUND\OK
LogFile [d:\path\filename.ext] <Expanded>
Usage : PalmTick FeatherLight can keep track of its activity in
a FrontDoor-style log. When this option isn't used, no
logging will be done.
[d:\path\filename.ext] This is the full path and
filename of the logfile
PalmTick FeatherLight should
maintain.
<Expanded> When this keyword is used, PalmTick
FeatherLight will use an expanded log
style.
Example : PT LogFile C:\LOG\PalmTick FeatherLight.LOG Expanded
BusySemaphore [d:\path\filename.ext]
Usage : PalmTick FeatherLight should never be executed more than
once at the same time. To make sure this will never
happen, PalmTick FeatherLight uses a semaphore file.
When this file already exists, PalmTick FeatherLight
will abort.
[d:\path\filename.ext] By default, PalmTick
FeatherLight uses PTFL.BSY in
the same directory where
PTFL.EXE resides. The filename
can be changed so your regular
tickfile processor will also
never be executed at the same
time as PalmTick FeatherLight.
Example : PT BusySemaphore c:\allfix\allfix.bsy

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unpack[archiver] [commandline]
Usage : PalmTick FeatherLight can process incoming tick archives
besides normal tickfiles. To unpack these archives, the
archives can be configured with this keyword.
[archiver] These archivers are available:
ARC, ZIP, LZH (LHA), ZOO, SQZ (Squeeze),
HYP (Hyper), ARJ, HAP, PAK, UC2.
[command] This is the command which should be
executed to unpack an archive of this
type.
Example : PT UnpackArc PAK e /WA
PT UnpackZIP PKZIP -o -ed
PT UnpackLzh LHA e /cm
PT UnpackZoo ZOO eO//
PT UnpackSqz SQZ e -o1
PT UnpackHyp HYPER -xo
PT UnpackArj ARJ e -c -y
PT UnpackHap PAH e
PT UnpackPak PAK e /WA
PT UnpackUc2 UC e -s -f !ban=off
Note : The above examples are being used as defaults.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3.3 Area specific configuration
By default, the settings from the PalmScan configuration will be used
to process the files. PalmTick FeatherLight can override those by using
the following keywords:
Area [AreaName]
Usage : This keyword starts the configuration for a new area.
When only this keyword is used and nothing else is
configured for this area, no archive conversion or virus
scanning will be done, GIF specifications will not be
added to descriptions and File_Id descriptions will not
be imported.
[AreaName] This is the areaname for which the
settings should be used. The wildcards
'?' and '*' can also be used.
Example : PT Area OASISSOFT
PT Area SDS*
PT Area ?????SOFT
Note : PalmTick FeatherLight will always use the first entry
which applies to the area found in the tick file.
ArchiveConversion [Archiver] <OnlyMainArchive> <NoSecure>
Usage : This option sets the target archive system. When no
target archive system is set, no archive conversion will
be done.
[Archiver] This sets the target. You can supply all
values you configured with the Archiver
statement in the PalmScan configuration.
<OnlyMainArchive> When this switch is specified, only
main archives will be converted to
the target archive type. Embedded
archives will still be processed for
other options when ArchInArch is
used in the PalmScan configuration,
but those archives won't be
converted.
<NoSecure> When this switch is used, secure archives
(archives with a security envelope or
authenticity verification) will not be
converted, no files will be removed or
added, no music modules will be
described, and an archive header will not
be added to secured ARJ archives.
Example : PT ArchiveConversion ZIP OnlyMainArchive NoSecure
- 12 -
PalmTick FeatherLight v1.00 User guide
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ConvertAll
Usage : Normally, only archives of other types than the target
archive system will be converted. With this option you
can tell PalmTick FeatherLight to convert all archives,
even if it's already of the target archive type.
Example : PT ConvertAll
FileID
Usage : When this switch is set, PalmTick FeatherLight will
import descriptions from the FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI
file to the tick file, using the LDesc tick command.
This command is supported by Allfix and FileMgr (and
probably many other tickfile processors).
Example : PT FileID
VirusScan
Usage : When this switch is used, PalmTick FeatherLight will
instruct PalmScan to scan for viruses inside all files,
using the scanners configured in the PalmScan
configuration.
Example : PT VirusScan
